Pakistani forces stormed a mosque compound in the capital on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 to clear it of militants after talks to end a week-long standoff broke down. Explosions rang out over Islamabad, where troops had been surrounding the Lal Masjid for a week after clashes erupted between armed student radicals and government forces. Military spokesman Major-General Waheed Arshad said an operation was launched at 4 AM to clear the madrasa of militants.
