The Michoacan state prosecutors’ office said most of the dead were in a car hit by the 26-year-old man’s SUV on Sunday.

The office said Monday that the driver and another occupant of the SUV suffered injuries and were being taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Uruapan when the man drew a gun and demanded they be let out. It says the men fled in a taxi, but the driver was detained later.
