Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday met newly-elected Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and discussed matters pertaining to the army.
During the meeting, Abbasi lauded armed forces for its fight against militants.
“Professional matters pertaining to Pakistan Army were discussed in the meeting,” said a statement issued by the PM House after the meeting.
This was Gen Bajwa’s first formal meeting with the prime minister since the latter assumed office earlier this month after disqualification of Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court.
The powerful army, which enjoys considerable influence over policy decisions in Pakistan, has ruled the country for much of its life since it gained independence 70 years ago.
