Tornado in Prince George, Virginia? Hopewell on alert amid radar-confirmed twister; check map as scary visuals emerge
A tornado warning was issued for Prince George County, Virginia by the National Weather Service as Hopewell remained on alert.
A tornado warning was issued for Prince George County in Virginia on August 14, as the National Weather Service (NWS) noted there was a radar-confirmed twister.

“Tornado Warning continues for Prince George County, VA until 11:15pm EDT,” they shared along with the map of areas likely to be impacted.
Hopewell on alert; warning sounded for Prince George County
An atmospheric and oceanic science student claimed that a brief tornado had taken place east of Hopewell as it remained on alert. Maps of the area were shared online.
“Wow! I believe the same storm that just dropped a brief tornado east of Hopewell VA produced a second brief tornado near Garysville. It appears as if the second tornado occurred right over the intersection of James River Dr and Moody Rd,” they wrote. Another post noted “Though hard to tell, I believe a brief tornado may have just occurred to the east of Hopewell, VA. This signature also aligned with what I believe was a weak TDS visible from KAKQ.”
Meanwhile, a weather update page noted “Flying debris and roof damage are the danger zone now as a radar-confirmed tornado grinds south at 20 mph over Central Prince George County, Virginia, near Hopewell, headed toward Disputanta.”
A storm chaser also added “Prince George County, Virginia — RIGHT NOW a severe thunderstorm with confirmed RADAR ROTATION is tracking south at 20mph near Hopewell. NWS Wakefield is NOT playing around with this one. The danger is REAL: Flying debris will be lethal to anyone caught outside. Mobile homes WILL be damaged or destroyed. Even sturdy structures can see roof and window damage.”
Scary visuals from Charlottesville, Virginia
Amid the tornado warnings in Virginia, scary visuals from Charlottesville emerged.
One video showed a lot of hail.
Another clip showed overcast skies and inclement weather.
Meanwhile, yet another video showed extremely strong winds and rain there.
“Destructive microburst winds and 2”+ hail in Charlottesville at around 5:30pm. Widespread damage here. Video from Darden Towe Park. Big old growth trees are destroyed,” the person noted.
One also shared a photo of purported destruction in Charlottesville.
“The Charlottesville VA Tornado went through our Part Breaking off the Sides and taking a part of the tree off now it’s Sideways,” they wrote.
Several people reacted to the situation as well. “I was caught right in it ! I posted a clip on my Jace when the jail was gold ball size hitting my car hard then trees were flying around like crazy going up towards the fashion square mall,” one wrote.
Another added “It was pretty intense. I was on my way to the SOCA Fieldhouse just a couple minutes after the worst part. The neighborhoods were a complete mess. Bless you all in Charlottesville.”
