Veteran journalist Batuk Gathani passes away

India’s relations with the European Union from Brussels were one of the major subjects Gathani reported on.

Batuk Gathani, veteran journalist and foreign correspondent for Indian and international news organisations, has passed away aged 82.

Bhupendra Bachulal Gathani, who reported for ‘The Hindu’ and ‘Frontline’ from Europe for several years, was president of the Indian Journalists Association for several years and one of the senior-most members of the body formed in 1947.

India’s relations with the European Union was one of the major subjects Gathani reported on.

His long career in journalism also included reporting several defining events in Africa and Europe.

A large number of family and friends gathered at the Golders Green Crematorium on Saturday for his funeral.

Gathani leaves behind wife Minal, daughter Toral, son Viral and grand-children.
