12 workers were killed on Sunday after a building under renovation collapsed in eastern China's Jiangsu Province, official sources said.

The accident took place at the site of an old office being renovated at Qianqiao community of Huishan District in Wuxi City, state run Xinhua news agency reported quoting a rescue official.

Three workers were pulled out of the debris and sent to hospital. The exact number of those buried under the debris is not known.

Rescue work is on and the cause of the accident is being investigated, the official said.
