Kathmandu District Administration on Friday ordered preventive detention of eight Tibetans exiles, apart from 16 arrested earlier this week for their alleged involvement in anti-China protests, the Himalayan Times online said.

In all, 24 Tibetans have been arrested in Nepal, which has been the scene of several anti-China protests. Their detention could span 90 days from the day of arrest, DSP Pradhumna Karki, Kathmandu Operation In-charge, was quoted as saying by the Nepali daily.

He said those detained were charged with defying prohibitory orders, taking part in protest against the Chinese rule in Tibet.

Since the failed uprising against the Chinese rule on March 10, 1959, Tibetans have launched several anti-China protests in Kathmandu demanding freedom and human rights in Tibet.
