29 heads of state or government at Tehran summit

A total of 29 heads of state or government today attended the opening in Tehran of a two-day Non-Aligned Movement summit, according to Iranian media.

A total of 29 heads of state or government on Thursday attended the opening in Tehran of a two-day Non-Aligned Movement summit, according to Iranian media.

That accounted for around a quarter of the 120 members represented at the meet, which Iranian officials were hailing as evidence of their country's important status in the world.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon is attending the summit as an observer. The NAM brings together many developing nations and accounts for two-thirds of the UN's 193-nation membership.

* Bangladesh- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
* Benin- President Thomas Boni Yayi
* Bhutan- Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley
* Burkina Faso- President Blaise Compaore
* Cambodia- Prime Minister Hun Sen
* Central African Republic- President Francois Bozize
* Djibouti- President Ismail Omar Guelleh
* Egypt- President Mohamed Morsi
* India- Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
* Iraq- Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki
* Gabon- President Ali Bongo Ondimba
* Guinea Bissau- President Malam Bacai Sanha
* Lebanon- President Michel Sleiman
* Lesotho- Prime Minister Thomas Thabane
* Mongolia- President Tsakhia Elbegdorj
* Nepal- Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai
* North Korea- ceremonial head of state Kim Yong-Nam (parliamentary president)
* Qatar- Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani
* Pakistan- President Asif Ali Zardari
* Palestinian Authority - President Mahmud Abbas
* Sri Lanka- President Mahinda Rajapaksa
* Sudan- President Omar al-Bashir
* Syria- Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi
* Swaziland- Prime Minister Barnabus Sibusiso Dlamini
* Tajikistan- President Emomali Rahmon
* Turkmenistan- President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow
* Uganda- President Yoweri Museveni
* Zimbabwe- Robert Mugabe

The other delegations were represented by senior officials of lower rank, including vice-presidents, deputy prime ministers, foreign ministers, deputy foreign ministers and envoys.
