The 44 deaths occurred between October last year and Feb 16.

A total of 31 people died due to carbon monoxide poisoning, 11 due to hypothermia and two from burns.

Most of the deaths occurred in the northern states. Chihuahua had the maximum with 21 deaths.

The secretariat asked people to take preventive measures such as strengthening their bodies' defences with food rich in vitamins C and D and drinking plenty of liquids and to wrap up to stay warm.
