The Taliban rebels said they have neither bases nor they need one in Pakistan or any other place out of Afghanistan due to their control over vast Afghan areas to carry out their operations.

US Defence Department said the Taliban control 11 of the 34 Afghan provinces, while some analysts put it at 72 per cent of the Afghan territory.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Kabul Kart Eikenberry said that his country will open two consulates in Afghanistan for the first time.
