Anglo American plans 19,000 job cuts

Mining group Anglo American said today it planned to cut 19,000 jobs by the end of the year after reporting a 29 per cent fall in 2008 net earnings to 5.2 billion dollars.

Mining group Anglo American said on Friday it planned to cut 19,000 jobs by the end of the year after reporting a 29 per cent fall in 2008 net earnings to 5.2 billion dollars (4.1 billion euros).

The cuts are part of an economy drive that the group hopes will result in a savings of 2.0 billion dollars a year between now and 2011.
