The crash late yesterday in eastern Minas Gerais also left several people injured, according to news reports.

Rescue officials said the bus was carrying 42 church members to a religious gathering at the time of the crash.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has placed Brazil fifth on a list of countries with the most road accidents. The top four places are occupied by India, China, Russia and the United States, the international group said.
