Amidst confusion over the exact number of people killed during the rebellion by border guards in Bangladesh, the paramilitary force has said a total of 75 people, including 58 unarmed army officers, were massacred.
"A total of 75 people including 58 unarmed army officers were killed in the February 25-26 massacre in BDR headquarters," said a statement issued by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) last night.
It said one army soldier, eight BDR personnel, seven civilians and two family members of the army officers also lost their lives in the bloody mutiny.
The statement came after a high-level meeting of different investigation committees chaired by Commerce Minister Colonel (retd.) Faruq Khan, who is coordinating the probe into the worst ever rebellion in Bangladesh's history.
Four BDR men including an Islamic cleric of the main Rifles Mosque died unnatural deaths in the past one month inside the paramilitary force's headquarters while interrogations were underway of the suspected rebels, Khan told reporters.
He said of them committed suicide, two died of sickness and the cleric died of heart failure.
