The prices of petrol and diesel have shot up in Bhutan, with the country's trade officials attributing the hike to an increase in dealers' commission in India.
From February 16, the price of petrol went up by Nu 1.87 and diesel by Nu 1.05 respectively.
In the capital, people will now have to pay Nu 42.82 for a litre of petrol and Nu 31.77 for per litre of diesel.
However, the price of LPG and kerosene remains the same.
Trade officials have said the hike is due to the increase in the dealers' commission in India and also rise in the price of crude oil in the international market.
Global crude prices have reached almost Nu 5,000 a barrel. Every year, Bhutan Oil Distributors and Druk Petroleum Corporation Limited import a minimum of 60,000 metric tonnes of petroleum products, including kerosene and liquid petroleum gas.
