An army spokesman says the blast hit a military convoy on Friday evening as it drove away from the Swat valley.

The spokesman requested anonymity in line with military policy. Pakistan's military has vowed to reinvigorate its efforts in Swat, where fighting has been raging the last 18 months. The valley is separate from the tribal regions along the Afghan border where Taliban and al-Qaida militants also find sanctuary.
