She worked up to 20 hours a day every day for just $45 a month. She was 10. Shyima Hall was brought by a wealthy Egyptian couple from a poor village in northern Egypt to work in their California home. The trafficking of children for domestic labor in the United States and Europe is an extension of an illegal but common practice in Africa, where it is seen as a way to earn extra money and even as an opportunity for the children.
