FBI paying wrongly detained Egyptian man $250,000

The FBI has paid $250,000 to an Egyptian man detained when a pilot's aviation radio was found after the Septtember 11, 2001 attacks in his hotel room overlooking the World Trade Center.

A judge had approved the payment to Abdallah Higazy in July. His lawyer says he received it this week.

Higazy, the 38-year-old son of an Egyptian diplomat, had sued the FBI. He said an FBI agent caused him to be unjustly criminally charged and imprisoned for 34 days.

He was freed after a pilot who stayed at the hotel told hotel officials that the radio belonged to him. Higazy has returned to Egypt.
