Four elderly people died early on Friday when a blaze gutted their retirement home at Shchebekino, a Russian town located near the border with Ukraine, news agencies reported.
A fifth person was hospitalized and 99 were evacuated from the two wings of the building, Interfax said.

The fire broke out in one of the bedrooms of the two-storey retirement home in the Belgorod region. Causes of the blaze, which was brought under control, were not immediately known.
