"In certain zones (near Tskhinvali) Russian peacekeepers met active confrontation" overnight, said Marat Kulakhmetov.

He said Georgian soldiers continued to fire on Russian positions.

"One post of Russian peacekeepers was even bombed by Georgian aircraft," he said.

There were no casualties among the Russian soldiers in the attacks, he added.
