A golfer was recovering in hospital on Wednesday after he fell 30 metres down a cliff at Auckland's Howick course looking for a lost ball.

The unnamed man, who suffered serious injuries, was only found because a groundsman became curious about a lone golf cart parked near the cliff Tuesday and saw the man's arm sticking out among rocks below when he went to investigate.
