The Prachanda-led government has also recalled the ambassador to the United States, Suresh Kumar Chalise, foreign ministry spokesman Suresh Pradhan told Hindustan Times, adding that both the envoys have been asked to return to Kathmandu immediately.

Both Singh and Chalise were Nepali Congress nominees and were appointed by the former Girija Prasad Koirala-led
government. The then cabinet, in which the Maoists were also partners, had approved the appointment.

Singh is an alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics and a student of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Chalise was former advisor to Koirala.

During the last one week, the new government in Nepal has brought into effect a major bureaucratic reshuffle and are likely to recall few more envoys, senior official sources said.

The Maoist-led government has also made more than a dozen new political postings, and has replaced the Nepali Congress's candidates.

At present, the Nepali Congress is the only opposition party in the Himalayan nation.
