Six Indian pharmaceutical companies had to swallow a bitter pill recently when the Sri Lankan government blacklisted and banned them for apparently supplying spurious drugs.
Now the Indian government has requested its Sri Lankan counterpart government to lift the ban the on products sold by these companies.
Reports had said that the companies were asked to give explanations on contaminated vaccine vials early last month after some supplies were found containing glass and plastic particles, according to a report.
On Wednesday, the Indian high commissioner, Ashok K Kantha, met minister of healthcare and nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva and requested him to lift the ban.
The Indian companies punished were the Kilitch Drugs, Umedica Laboratories, Belco Pharma, Vins Biotech, Backster India and Mercury Laboratory.
They were asked to submit explanations after drugs were found to be contaminated with glass particles and plastic in random inspections and following complaints from consumers.
