Indians in Great Britain should register themselves to vote in the general elections, a leading Indian barrister in England, Bhaskar Ghorpade, said.

People of Indian origin in Great Britain should register themselves to vote in the general elections taking place on May 5, 2005, a leading Indian barrister in England, Bhaskar Ghorpade, said on Tuesday.

"There are around 2,75,000 people of Indian origin in Great Britain and their votes are up for grabs for both the parties -- Conservatives and Labour," Ghorpade, on a visit to the city said.

He hoped that the quarter of a million Indians would play an active role in promoting Indo-British relations.

The Association of the Passport Holders India (APNA), in the United Kingdom had put forth two basic demands - one to classify Indian citizens abroad as 'citizens of India' and not as NRIs or PIOs and to scrap the 'Pravasi Bharatiya Divas', Ghorpade, president of the association said.
