The submarine measured four feet height and 24 ft in length, the Media Centre for National Security said.
The recovery of submarine comes nearly a month after the killing of Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran last month.
Meanwhile, in the largest haul of weapons after the military defeat of the LTTE, Sri Lankan Army have recovered sophisticated arms and ammunitions like machine guns and grenades during clearing and combing operations in the once rebel held northern region.
Hundreds of automatic and semi-automatic assault rifles including T-56 and LMG's (Light Machine guns) have been recovered by the troops.
"More weapons, ammunition and explosives emerge as clearing operations continue. Troops conducting search and clear operations in the Wanni areas on Friday uncovered some more LTTE weapons, ammunition and explosives from different locations in Mullaittivu, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya," the Defence Ministry said.
