A magnitude 6.7 quake struck off Okinawa in Japan, the US Geological Survey said on Sunday, but no tsunami was reported. The USGS said the quake was centered 143 km north-northwest of Naha, Okinawa, at a depth of almost (112 km).
A tsunami was not expected after the temblor, the National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said immediately after the incident.
A 5.5-magnitude earthquake had hit eastern Japan on Sunday in November last year, rocking buildings in Tokyo.
