People of Indian origin have made several plans to celebrate the festival in various parts of Britain,
particularly in towns such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinbrugh and Bristol.

Earlier this month, the ceremonial switching-on ceremony of Diwali lights was held in Leicester in the presence of
nearly 60,000 people.

The event, in the Belgrave area, is supported by the local council. The finale will begin tomorrow with the closure
of Belgrave Road for traffic as thousands of visitors are expected to enjoy the shops and the atmosphere on the Golden
Mile in a traffic-free environment.

The events will later move to a nearby park with a programme of classical and contemporary Indian dance, including a performance of Ram Struti by Nupur Arts, a Bollywood film dance by the Amar Nritya group, and a Gujarati folk dance by dancers from Shree Sanatan Mandir. It will end with a Punjabi folk dance from Balle Shava.
