The driver in the car crash that killed ex-South African president Nelson Mandela's great granddaughter will appear in court only after the World Cup finishes, prosecutors said Monday.
"We expect him to appear on July 26," said Mthunzi Mhaga, spokesman for the national prosecutors' office.
Sizwe Mankazana faces charges of drunk driving and culpable homicide for driving the car that flipped over and killed 13-year-old Zenani Mandela as she returned from a pre-World Cup concert late Thursday.
Mankazana is the son of the partner of Nelson Mandela's granddaughter, also called Zenani. He has issued a statement voicing regret at her death.
He was arrested immediately after the accident, but released on bail after a judge ordered further investigations.
Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president who is increasingly frail at 91, skipped the opening ceremony of the World Cup on Friday as his family grieved her death.
