Mehsud making efforts to obtain fatwa allowing suicide attacks

Baitullah Mehsud, Pakistani Taliban chief and the country's most wanted terrorist, is trying to obtain a 'fatwa' from two clerics declaring that suicide attacks against government installations, mosques and madrassas "are authorised by Islam".

Baitullah Mehsud, Pakistani Taliban chief and the country's most wanted terrorist, is trying to obtain a 'fatwa' from two clerics declaring that suicide attacks against government installations, mosques and madrassas "are authorised by Islam".

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan commander Mehsud, against whom army has planned a massive offensive in the country's troubled northwest, was making efforts to obtain such a 'fatwa', the military said.

It said that it had information that Mehsud was trying to get the 'fatwa' from two muftis stating that suicide attacks against government installations, mosques and madrassas are authorised by Islam.

Mehsud carries USD five million on his head, offered by the United States.
