Michelle met Barack when they worked at a law firm in Chicago.

She was also impressed by his relationship with women, his love for his mother and his work ethic. "He was low key and he wasn't impressed with himself. He was funny and we joked a lot," the US First Lady was quoted as saying by the Daily Express.

"Couple that with his talent – and he's cute!" she added, to giggles.

"I always thought he would be useful but I had no idea he would be President. I didn't think he was going to be President until the night we were standing on the stage and he won," she said on a visit to London school.

Michelle, 47, was struck when Obama turned down the chance to work at the US Supreme Court because he felt he could do more with communities through the church.

Asked if she always felt he would achieve greatness, she joked, "Absolutely not."

"I'm kidding. Honestly, when I met him I knew he was a special person, and it had nothing to do with his education, nothing to do with his potential," she joked.

US President Barack Obama is on his first state visit to Britain, the third by an American President in the last 100 years.
