The quake hit at 06:00 am (0330 IST Sunday) around 120 kilometres (75 miles) north-northwest of Kupang, Timor, the USGS said.

It was measured at a depth of 120km.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
