Nawaz backtracks on Kasab, says he is not Pakistani

Former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif today retracted his earlier statement by saying there is no evidence to suggest the Ajmal Amir Kasab is a Pakistani. He also reiterated that Pakistan is not involved in the Mumbai terror attacks.See special

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today retracted his earlier statement by saying there is no evidence to suggest the Ajmal Amir Kasab is a Pakistani. He also reiterated that Pakistan is not involved in the terror attacks in Mumbai.

Nawaz backtracked from his earlier stand that Kasab was Pakistani and that he himself had checked all facts before coming to this conclusion. Sharif had also said that "It is important that truth comes out in open. We need to set our house in order". He had also hinted that Pakistan Army could be behind the Mumbai terror attacks.

Foreign affair experts say that Sharif was under pressure from the Pakistan government, media and the public to retract from his earlier statement .
