No mention of J&K in UN report

Pakistan is getting excited too late. The India-Pakistan questions — commonly called the Kashmir dispute — have not found mention in a UN Security Report for at last 10 years, if not longer.

“The Jammu and Kashmir dispute was not mentioned in the context of unresolved long-running situations,” said Pakistan’s acting envoy to the UN Amjad Hussain B Sial on Monday.

“We understand this was an inadvertent omission, as Jammu and Kashmir is one of the oldest disputes on the agenda of the Security Council,” Sial said during a discussion in the General Assembly on Security Council reforms.

He was taking objection to the fact that Kashmir did not figure in the latest annual report of the Security Council to the General Assembly.

But the India-Pakistan question has not been figuring in the annual reports of the Security Council since 2000, from when old issues before the council stopped being mentioned in the report if they were not discussed that year.

It didn’t find mention in the latest report for the same reason, that it was not discussed this year or in the last five years.
