"It is clear that the situation in Afghanistan is directly linked to the situation in Pakistan. It is impossible to resolve it until the nests of terrorism are eliminated in Pakistan," Medvedev said at the closing news conference at the end of two-day SCO summit.

"This is the precise reason why I had a trilateral meeting on Monday night with Zardari and Karzai," Medvedev said and added that Russia is watching the efforts made by the Pakistani government.

Anti-terror combat and situation in Afghanistan was on the top of the agenda at the SCO summit also for the first time attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in India's capacity as an observer.

"The SCO summit has also adopted the much-awaited anti-terror convention, which will be shortly made public," Medvedev said.
