Pakistan's Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict in the 1999 case involving hijacking of a plane carrying the then Army chief General Pervez Musharraf, allegedly at the behest of former Premier Nawaz Sharif.
Sharif, whose government was overthrown in a military coup by Musharraf after the alleged conspiracy, has challenged the trial court's verdict convicting him in the case.
Prosecutor-General Sindh Shahadat Awan told the court that Sharif's appeal was liable to be dismissed, as he was rightly convicted by the trial court, Geo TV reported.
He contended that the PML-N chief's petition was time-barred, as it violated the apex court's rules stipulating that an appeal has to be filed within a month of a judgement.
The court reserved its decision at the end of the prosecutor's argument in which he also said that the petition could be condoned if the court was satisfied with the cause of delay in filing the appeal.
Sharif, who had sacked Musharraf from his military post in October 1999, is accused of attempting to block his plane from landing at Karachi.
