Pakistan condole Venkataraman's demise

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani condoled the death of former Indian President R Venkataraman, saying the region had lost a "noble and distinguished politician".

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday condoled the death of former Indian President R Venkataraman, saying the region had lost a "noble and distinguished politician".

In his message to his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil, Zardari conveyed his condolences to the government and people of India and members of Venkataraman's family.

"In his death, the region has lost a noble and distinguished politician," he said. Gilani, in a message to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, too expressed his condolences to the government and people of India and members of the bereaved family.

Venkataraman died yesterday after a prolonged illness at the age of 98.
