FIA deputy director, Subah Sadiq said the authorities had released Meera on a personal surety bond but she would be called later on for more interrogation.
"It is a case of multiple passports and no Pakistani citizen is allowed to do this. There is a severe punishment for this," Sadiq said.
Meera who remained in the eye of the storm last year for denying claims by a businessmen from Lahore that she was his legally wedded wife was detained when she returned from a visit to the United States.
"We questioned her for two hours and she claimed she was not aware that there was another valid passport in her name in the database," Sadiq said.
Meera was detained when immigration authorities went into the database to check her passport details and found out there was another passport in her name as well with some valid visas on them.
Meera has also acted in some Indian movies and during her court and media battle with her husband last year she blamed a producer from India for masterminding the campaign against her to defame her.
