Passengers on American Airlines Flight 331 had arrived in pouring rain at Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport about 10:00 pm (0300 GMT Wednesday) when the accident occurred, according to the newspaper.

"The plane crashed and broke almost in front of me," passenger Naomi Palmer told The Observer.
