Quake jolts Japan's Okinawa; no damage expected

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage and Kyodo news agency quoted the agency as saying no damage was anticipated.

The quake, at 10:28 p.m. (1328 GMT), was at a very shallow depth, JMA said.

The agency issued a tsunami advisory for waves of up to 50 cm for Miyako island and the

Yaeyama region in the Okinawa chain, but the advisory was lifted soon.

Earthquakes are common in Japan, one of the world's most seismically active areas. The country accounts for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater.
