"I would say that a re-set was needed," said Pakistan's new ambassador Sherry Rahman in a speech, adding later, "notion of territorial sovereignty dominates" discourse at home.

This was Rahman's first speech after succeeding Husain Haqqani, who resigned in the wake of a controversy known as the "Memogate", which raised prospects of an Army coup.

The plea for a re-set with emphasis on territorial sovereignty came within days of a book detailing violations of Pakistan's borders by US personnel.

Re-set is a diplomatic term used to re-think a relationship used liberally for the first time in the context of US-Russia relations. This caps a year of bitter recriminations between the two countries over a CIA contractor's arrest, and shooting of 24 Pakistani soldiers by US-led forces.
