Convicted assassin of Robert F Kennedy, Sirhan Sirhan was denied parole by a Californian state panel even after languishing 42 years in jail for a crime that was mourned by America with the board saying he hadn't shown enough remorse.
"The magnitude of this crime is one that changed the way politicians interacted with the people," Panel Chairman Mike Prizmich ruled despite now 66-year-old Palestinian-born Sirhan's confession that every day of his life he had great remorse and regret.
The assassin complained in the court that he had been given solitary confinement following 9/11 attacks as he became a target of hatred of other inmates who thought he was a Muslim.
Sirhan was convicted of killing Kennedy and wounding five other people in the shooting in the kitchen pantry of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1968 and sentenced to death by a local court overruling objections of the Kennedy family who said they wanted no more killings.
However, his sentence was commuted to life in prison when the US Supreme Court briefly outlawed the death penalty in 1972.
