Limonov, head of the National Bolshevik Party, was about to give a speech at the meeting in a Moscow square when plain clothes and regular police rushed towards him with such force that he fell over and was arrested.

"Apart from him, around 10-15 people were arrested at Trimumphalnaya Square in the centre of Moscow," Limonov's spokesman Alexander Averin told AFP.

At another anti-government rally outside a metro station in western Moscow, a dozen opposition reporters were arrested and taken into police cars, an AFP correspondent reported.
