Two stents were inserted during the surgery on Wednesday and Sharif is out of danger, Pakistan's Punjab government spokesman Saeed Elahi told PTI in Lahore.

Doctors in London reportedly detected the 64 year old Sharif's heart problem while he was undergoing a check-up at the central London hospital, where doctors decided to keep him for further observation.

Sharif had been in the British capital for the past few days after reaching there from Lahore via Switzerland on a private visit.

Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, the younger brother of the PML-N chief, also rushed to London after Sharif was hospitalised. Earlier, rumours were circulating in Pakistan about Sharif being seriously ill, with many people calling newspaper offices to inquire about his status after receiving SMSes about the senior leader's health.

However, Elahi dismissed these rumours and said that Shahbaz would be in London till Sharif recovers.
