Police shot dead the man suspected of being involved in the shootout inside the Pathmark supermarket on Route 9 in Old Bridge, NJ

Police responded to the gunshots and there was a confrontation with the gunman, reported ABC citing WABC-TV.

The suspect was apparently wearing body armour.

It is not yet known how many others were killed before police responded.
