At least seven people were dead and more than 25,000 were displaced by pounding monsoon rains lashing parts of Malaysia, with weather office predicting more rains especially in palm oil-producing region of Johor on country's southern tip.

A total of 13,945 flood victims had fled their homes and were put up in shelters in Johor state while in Pahang, more than 10,000 people were affected by the surging waters.

Malaysia, the world's top palm oil producer, has said its production is expected to be lower than the forecasted 16.2 million tonnes this year due to floods in Johor.

Floods there (Johor) are expected to cost the country a loss of 500,000 million tonnes of palm oil, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui said.

Chin said that palm oil production this year is expected to be lower than the forecasted 16.2 million tonnes, at about 15.7 million to 15.8 million tonnes by year-end.

Johor, which borders Singapore, was among the several states inundated by heavy monsoon rains.
