Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Friday accepted an application filed against former president Pervez Musharraf accusing him of committing treason under Article 6 of the constitution.

The hearing for the case will begin on Monday with the chief justice heading a three member bench which will deliberate over the case.

The step came after the Pakistan Election Commission rejected Musharraf’s nomination papers.

The application in the court was filed by Chaudhry Taufiq Asif, the president of the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench bar association.

Asif said he had asked the court to try Musharraf for treason for imposing emergency rule in 2007.
