The town in east Midlands has a large community of Indian-origin people who are successful in different walks of life, but the sight and story of 32-year-old Sarbjit Singh living on the streets is making more news as local officials and MPs try to help him return to India.

Singh, who paid human traffickers to smuggle him into Britain seven years ago, is living on the Greenlane Road in Leicester for the last four months, along with another illegal immigrant, Ashok Masah (40).

Labour MP from Leicester, Keith Vaz, has urged the immigration minister to intervene.
