Condemning the suicide attack at a mosque in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has extended condolences to the people suffering due to clashes between the army and the militants in the region.
"He reiterates his rejection of such indiscriminate and reprehensible acts of violence and extends his condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Pakistan," Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson said.
At least 40 people were killed and dozens injured on Friday when a suicide bomber struck during weekly Friday prayers at a crowded mosque in the restive Dir area of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province.
This was the ninth bomb attack in Pakistan since the recent military offensive against Taliban in the Swat valley.
Meanwhile, United Nations refugee agency has said that nearly 20,000 displaced people are expected to take shelter into already overcrowded and under-funded camps in Pakistan's north-west during a break in the curfew imposed in the wake of clashes between the army and militants.
