Myanmar democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, on her first trip abroad in over two decades, on Wednesday told cheering migrants from her country that she would work to improve their lot in Thailand.

"I can give you one promise -- I will try my best for you," Suu Kyi told a crowd of hundreds who packed a narrow street in Samut Sakhon province south of Bangkok to see the opposition leader, on her first journey abroad since 1988.
