The Guinness Book of World Records had named Yone Minagawa as the oldest person on earth in January following the death of another 114-year-old, American Emma Tillman.

Yone began feeling worse in June. After a course of therapy in a hospital, she returned to the nursing home. She was believed to have been feeling better, but at 6 pm (9 am GMT) on Monday she breathed her last.

Yone outlived her husband and four of her five children. She is survived by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
