People were sceptical of me when I was not doing films: Diana Penty
Actor Diana Penty talks about how people doubted her career path, during her break of four years.
Model turned actor Diana Penty came back on the silver screen with her second film Happy Bhag Jayegi, after a long hiatus of four years. Penty, who made her Bollywood debut with filmmaker Homi Adajania’s film Cocktail (2012), says she met a lot of people during this break who doubted her career path and future in the industry.
“In the last four years, when I was not doing any project, people were little sceptical of me because they were not sure about my game plan, or whether I was doing something or not. Everyone came up with their versions of what I was up to,” says Penty, whose was paired opposite Abhay Deol in Happy Bhag Jayegi, which released last week.

Thankfully, Penty didn’t let people’s perceptions affect her and she continued looking for good work.
“People concocted ideas around what I was going to do. It’s only natural for people to think that way. However, people in the entertainment industry did not change their approach towards me,” says the actor.
So, what took Penty four years to take up her second Bollywood project?
“It’s not just one thing. Everybody asks me why I took so long, but there was no one particular reason or decision. I was looking for something I was interested in, and I didn’t want to be pressured, as far as doing it within a certain time period was concerned. I was okay with whatever I was doing and I moved with the flow. Maybe it took more than I had imagined,” she says, who played the lead role of Harpreet Kaur aka Happy in the film.
